Stress & Trauma Recovery Support
Understanding Stress & Trauma:
A Path to Healing
Stress manifests in various forms, each affecting individuals differently. Acute stress arises from short-term, high-intensity events, while cumulative stress builds over time, often unnoticed until it becomes overwhelming. Prolonged exposure to stress can have lasting effects on both the body and mind, leading to chronic conditions such as anxiety, depression, and emotional fatigue. For some, this extended strain can develop into Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), or in more complex cases, Complex PTSD (CPTSD), which results from repeated trauma over time.
At Jennifer Nava, LMFT & Associates, we specialize in treating individuals struggling with these various forms of stress and trauma. Our experienced team is dedicated to helping clients process their experiences in a safe, supportive environment using trauma-informed care. We utilize proven therapeutic modalities like EMDR, Brainspotting, and Exposure Therapy to address the unique needs of those impacted by acute stress, prolonged exposure, PTSD, and Complex PTSD.
Through therapy, we guide clients toward regaining resilience, empowering them to manage symptoms, regulate emotions, and take back control of their lives. Our approach fosters deep healing, builds long-term strength, and helps individuals restore a sense of self and psychological well-being.

At our practice, we specialize in trauma-informed care, recognizing that trauma can deeply impact both the mind and body. Trauma may stem from various experiences such as abuse, accidents, loss, or any situation where an individual feels overwhelmed or powerless. These experiences often leave lasting emotional and psychological effects that manifest in symptoms such as anxiety, depression, hypervigilance, or difficulty regulating emotions.
Trauma-informed care is essential because it focuses on creating a safe, supportive environment that recognizes and responds to the unique needs of trauma survivors. It ensures that treatment is not only about addressing symptoms but also about understanding the deeper layers of past experiences and how they influence present behavior. This approach helps individuals regain control, build resilience, and heal without retraumatization.
Our intensive program runs for 4 hours a day, over the course of three consecutive days: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. During these sessions, we use Exposure Therapy and EMDR to address trauma and reduce the intensity of your symptoms, reminding your brain of its inherent resilience. To determine if this program is the right fit for you, we conduct a comprehensive 90-minute consultation, which includes assessments and a clinical interview. This allows us to evaluate your needs and ensure the program aligns with your treatment goals.
Upon completing the intensive program, you can choose to continue your therapeutic journey with weekly sessions at our practice, focusing on building long-term resilience. If you are already working with another clinician, we will collaborate with them to ensure a smooth transition back to your regular care.
FIRST RESPONDERS,
military, & emergency personnel
For over 8 years, our practice has specialized in providing care to First Responders, Emergency Staff, active military, and veterans. We deeply understand the unique culture of this work and the immense physical, emotional, and psychological demands it places on individuals. This insight comes from personal experience—our clinicians are either former First Responders themselves or are married to a veteran, active military member, or emergency personnel.
We are extensively trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches to help you process and heal from highly stressful and traumatic events. Our goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where you can find relief and regain a sense of psychological safety.
We are currently accepting new clients through Core (formerly Cordico) EAP, Concern EAP, and Workers' Comp.

Our Practice
Couples Counseling
Relationships can face challenges at any stage, whether from communication breakdowns, unresolved conflict, or life transitions. Couples counseling offers a safe, structured environment to explore and resolve these issues, fostering deeper understanding and emotional connection between partners. The benefits of couples therapy extend beyond resolving immediate concerns, helping couples build stronger, healthier relationships in the long term.
At Jennifer Nava, LMFT & Associates, we utilize Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method, two highly effective approaches to couples counseling. EFT helps couples navigate emotional patterns, uncovering underlying feelings that may be contributing to conflict. This approach fosters emotional healing and strengthens the bond between partners. The Gottman Method, based on extensive research, focuses on improving communication, building trust, and deepening emotional intimacy. It provides practical tools to manage conflict, enhance connection, and create lasting relationship success.
Whether you are seeking support for specific issues or simply looking to strengthen your relationship, couples counseling can be a powerful resource to enhance your connection and mutual understanding.
Teens
Teens are such a joy to work with. We LOVE their sense of wonder, independence, resilience, sass, and overall genuine and authentic personalities. This is such a pivotal age for exploration and moving from being dependent upon adult regulation and guidance to an independent mindset. Typically teens are getting to know who they are and want to be as fully formed adults and individuals.

Our Approach
I provide a personalized approach to therapy incorporating a variety of techniques:
Talk Therapy
This gives space to recognize and acknowledge patterns of symptomatology, identify areas of your life you are feeling impacted, and discuss tools for managing the symptoms.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
This is a great technique for deeper therapeutic work to get through frozen memories, unwanted intense feelings, and provide a calm state of mind.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
This approach is great to recognize why the symptoms came to be the way they are and give them more awareness from an alternative perspective. When we shift our mindset from feeling like our whole self to only a part of ourself is actually overwhelmed, one can regain a sense of control and reduce the overall feeling of being overwhelmed.
Brainspotting
This is a powerful technique similar to EMDR that uses eye positions to locate unprocessed memories in the brain. By identifying specific points in your visual field, Brainspotting helps access and release unresolved emotions, thoughts, and memories. This technique can lead to deep emotional healing and relief from persistent psychological distress.
Imaginal Exposure Therapy
Imaginal Exposure Therapy is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy designed to help you confront and overcome fears, anxieties, intrusive memories, and PTSD. By gradually exposing you to the feared or distressing thoughts in a controlled and safe environment, this approach works to reduce the emotional intensity over time, helping you regain control and ease the impact these feelings have on your life.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Recognizing our thought patterns is important to know how to support the internal dialogue and reduce symptomatology. CBT is a great technique to help recognize negative thought patterns and exercise different techniques to restore healthy thinking. This is a wonderful form of treatment for children and adults.
Trained Therapy Dog
Benni is a hypoallergenic Australian Labradoodle. He enjoys meeting new faces and supporting individuals and couples during sessions when requested. He has been in training since he was 9-weeks old to assist in providing a sense of comfort and safety during our sessions.

First Responder Support Network
As the Clinical Director of Jennifer Nava, LMFT & Associates, my mission is to provide meaningful relief from the intense and overwhelming thoughts, emotions, memories, and trauma that individuals may face. Through our practice, I aim to guide clients toward rediscovering their resilience, empowering them to navigate life's challenges with renewed confidence and strength. Our goal is to help individuals reconnect with their sense of self, identity, and inner power, fostering healing and growth in a supportive, therapeutic environment.
I particularly love working with first responders and law enforcement. I am a Certified First Responder Counselor and for several years I worked within law enforcement. My husband works in law enforcement and is a veteran. Having a unique understanding and experience with the ups and downs of a life of service can have on a person, marriage, and family is what I bring to the table. Within my private practice as well as volunteering at the West Coast Post Trauma Retreat through the First Responder Support Network, I've worked with many first responders and various departments within law enforcement and Fire. I love being able to provide support to both the individual experiencing on the job challenges and stressors, as well as working with couples and supporting them through their collective challenges. It's important to have a real, firsthand understanding concerning life and the cultural stigmas within these specialized work environments. Our sessions take place in a safe space where we can work through your intense and sometimes overwhelming thoughts and feelings. With warmth and kindness, sometimes a bit of dark humor, we will work through your treatment options and find a solution that best fits your current struggles.
I am passionate about supporting clients navigating chronic illnesses and complex medical conditions, a journey I deeply understand from personal experience. I have been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Hypermobility, and the associated comorbidities, including Dysautonomia, MCAS, chronic pain, and chronic fatigue. I have faced a long and challenging road of advocating for my needs, navigating numerous medical appointments, and fighting for an accurate diagnosis. I am transparent about my own experiences to create a genuine and compassionate space, allowing clients to feel truly seen and understood as they work through their own challenges.
